Cricket Canada Issues Player Contracts, Reinforcing Player Welfare as Top Priority
Cricket Canada is pleased to announce the formal issuance of player contracts, marking an important milestone in the organization’s renewed commitment to strengthening the high-performance environment for Canadian athletes.
This is the first time in nearly two years that national team players have received formal agreements. While these contracts should have been issued by the previous administration, the newly elected Board acted swiftly to ensure that player welfare, stability, and professional standards are restored and prioritized without delay.
Despite the organization currently navigating ICC financial sanctions, the Board unanimously determined that providing players with clear contractual protection and benefits could not be postponed. Ensuring that athletes have the financial security and support they deserve was identified as a nonnegotiable priority, even during a period of financial constraint.
A major governance reform introduced at the recent Annual General Meeting included the creation of two new Board positions: Player Representative (Male) and Player Representative (Female). In alignment with Sport Canada guidelines, these directors, both former national team players are mandated to ensure that athlete welfare, safety, and voice remain central to all Board deliberations. Their presence has already strengthened Cricket Canada’s ability to address player concerns and advance modern governance standards. Cricket Canada Director National team in charge Mr. Ranjit Chaudhri reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to elevating the player experience: “The new Board is determined to provide our players with the best support possible and to create meaningful opportunities that enhance both their professional environment and their financial wellbeing. Issuing these contracts is an important step in rebuilding trust and strengthening our high-performance pathway. Even with funding constraints arising from ICC financial sanctions, Cricket Canada has chosen to prioritize player welfare and contractual certainty.”
Cricket Canada remains committed to transparency, governance reform, and the continued development of cricket across the country.
Manzoor Chaudhary, Director Player Representative (Male), welcomed the player contracts:
“As Player Representatives, one of our priorities has been to ensure players have the support and certainty they deserve. We worked closely with the Board to advance these contracts, and I am pleased to see them finalized. This is an important step in strengthening player welfare and ensuring athletes have a stronger voice within Cricket Canada.”
