Captain Leads From the Front: Canada U19 Women Take 2-1 Series Lead With 45-Run Win
Captain Rabbjyot Rajput top-scored with a determined 48 from 48 balls, then watched her bowlers bowl out a strong Trinidad & Tobago U19 batting line-up for just 79 as Canada U19 Women secured a commanding 45-run victory in the third T20I of the series on Tuesday, May 19. The win lifts Canada to a 2-1 lead in the five-match series and pushes the inaugural tour record to four victories from five matches played.
After being inserted on a tricky surface, Canada were tested early at 17/2 inside five overs but rebuilt through an 81-run third-wicket partnership between Rajput and wicketkeeper Khadeeja Fatima (28 off 40) that gave the bowlers a total to defend. The bowlers then produced the most disciplined collective effort of the tour to date — eight bowlers used, Trinidad never allowed to settle, and just 79 runs conceded across the full 20 overs.
Innings 1 | Captain Rajput Rebuilds Canada’s Innings
Sent in to bat, Canada lost Harper Chalmers (2 off 10) early to Samiya Munessar in the fourth over and Vritti Dahiya (9 off 14) shortly after to Annalisa Manoo, with the score at 17/2 inside five. The Trinidad attack — disciplined, well-marshalled and changing bowlers regularly — squeezed Canada’s run rate through the powerplay and threatened to put the tourists out of the contest early.
It was the captain who answered. Joined by wicketkeeper Khadeeja Fatima, Rajput batted with composure and judgement through the middle phase, rotating strike and finding the boundary when the field allowed. The pair added 81 runs for the third wicket between the 5th and 17th overs — the platform that ultimately defined the innings. Fatima was eventually caught at 28 off 40 (three fours) in the 17th over off Alexa Baboolal, and Rajput followed three overs later, dismissed caught-and-bowled by Kimora Daniel for 48 from 48 — 2 runs short of what would have been her maiden international half-century. The captain’s knock included three fours and a six, and was struck at exactly a run a ball.
Rameen Rashid contributed a quick 9 off 10, but Canada were unable to launch a final-overs flourish and closed on 124/5 from their 20 overs — a competitive but not commanding total. Twenty-three wides in the Trinidad innings helped Canada beyond what the bat alone produced.

Trinidad’s chase never threatened to settle. The Canadian new-ball pair set the tone with two of the most economical T20 spells the tour has produced. Snigdha Malhotra returned 4-0-9-0 at an economy of 2.25, and Shreya Vora matched her with 4-0-9-2 — both four-over spells under ten runs. Vora dismissed dangerous batter Azariah Mulla (12 off 32) and Sameera Naidoo, while Harper Chalmers struck early to remove Kimora Daniel lbw for 3 in the 5th over.
Jannah Mohammed offered resistance with a patient 41 off 52, but with Trinidad unable to lift the rate above four an over, the equation only grew harder. By the time Hasini Santhoshkumar was brought in late into the attack for the 18th and 20th overs, the result was effectively secured — and the medium pacer sealed it in style with figures of 2-1-6-3 (a maiden and three wickets), including the stumping of Shriya Jairam by Fatima and a final-over double that removed Annalisa Manoo and Mariela Singh’s resistance. Harper Chalmers also engineered a run-out of Manoo in the 18th over. Trinidad finished 79/7 — 45 runs short.
