Canada Concludes Malaysia ICC Challenge League A Campaign With Mammoth Win Over Hosts!

Canada closed off its 2022 Malaysia ICC Challenge League A campaign in exactly the same manner in which it had started, only much more emphatically so. The Canadians registered a massive 189-run victory against their Malaysian hosts in the final match of the tournament which was played on December 13 at Kuala Lumpur’s UKM YSD Cricket Oval.

Batting first Canada scored 240/8 in 47 overs. Malaysia in reply were bundled out for 51 in just 21.3 overs.

Kaleem Sana was the demolition architect of Malaysia’s demise. Sana’s left-arm seam was too much of a handful for Malaysia’s batsmen. He accounted for half the batting order in taking 5/22 from 6 overs. He was well supported by Nikhil Dutta who had figures of 2/9-5.3 overs and as well by Jeremy Gordon 1/8-5 and captain Saad Bin Zafar 1/11-5.

Earlier the foundation for the Canadians 240/8 had been laid by an 84-ru partnership for the third wicket between innings top-scored Srimantha Wijeyeratne 74 and Nicholas Kirton 30. The pair had come together with the Canadian innings faltering somewhat at 43/2-11.2 overs following the early losses of both openers Aaron Johnson for 10 and Pargat Singh who fell for 19.

Skipper Zafar also contributed a quickfire 34 not out, that was made off only 21 deliveries and including one six and three fours. Ravinderpal Singh 27 and Nikhil Dutta 20 were the other contributors of note to the Canadian total.

Bowling for Malaysia Rizwan Haider, Sharvin Muniandy and Pavandeep Singh each had two-wicket hauls. Haider’s figures were 2/32-9 ovrs, Muniandy’s 2/40-8 ovrs and Singh’s 2/42-10 ovrs.
