Canada U19s lost their second match of the U19 World Cup by 150 runs to  South Africa in Potchefstroom today. 

South Africa batted first and put up a big total of 349/8 from their 50 overs, led by 121 from Bryce Parsons. Akhil Kumar (pictured) took 4/56 and Joshi and Verma each took two wickets. Canada got off to a quick start in reply, the 50 coming up in the 7th over for the loss of Sandhu. The run rate slowed with the loss of Patel (26, with five fours), and Kumar (17), with Canada at 71/3 in the 13th over. Benjamin Calitz made an accomplished  half century putting on 51 with Walia (27), but when Wallia was dismissed, the next five wickets fell for the addition of only  44 runs - 166/9. Gosol and Calitz put up a spirited fight with a last wicket partnership of 35 but Canada were bowled out for 199 in the 42nd over. Calitz was left unbeaten on 63.

The Canadian Under 19 team  opened the Under 19 World Cup with a loss to UAE on Saturday. 

Canada batted first and made an excellent start. Radhir Sandhu (35) and Mihir Patel (pictured) put on 82 for the first wicket. Patel competed his half century from 54 balls and partnered by Akhil Kumar (30) took the total to 120/1 at the halfway point. The partnership was broken when Kumar was dismissed with the score on 133, and this was followed by two more wickets, with Calitz making 2 and Walia 1 as Canada fell to 137/4. Captain Asthan Deosammy (23) steadied the ship helping Patel in another 50 partnership before Patel was run out for 90 from 105 balls. Muhammed Kamal made 31 as Canada totalled 231/8 from their 50 overs. 

This proved inadequate as UAE cruised to an 8 wicket victory in 38.4 overs, led by a century from Jonathan Figy.

Canada U19s played their final match before they start the U19 World Cup proper, losing to Australia. Batting first, Canada were bowled out for 114 in 41.4 overs. Eshan Sensarma (pictured) top-scored with a patient 27 from 71 balls. Australia raced to a 9 wicket win in 7.4 overs, thanks to a stunning 94* (from 27 balls with 11 sixes) from Oliver Davies.

Canada open the tournament against UAE on 18 January.

Canada U19s played West Indies in a warm-up match today at Soweto, South Africa. Canada won the toss and  batted. They put up an excellent total of 271/9 from 50 overs. Akhil Kumar (pictured above batting against USA last summer) top-scored with 59, opener Randhir Sandhu made 32, striking seven fours in his 35 ball innings, Benjamin Calitz made 38, and Ayush Verma contributed 42*.

Rishiiv Joshi took a wicket in the first over, and West Indies at one point had five wickets down for just 89. However Morris (102*) and Young (70) put on 123 for the 6th wicket, and West Indies won with 3 overs to spare. Joshi took 4/23, and Canada used nine bowlers in total in order to assist in preparation for the upcoming tournament,

The Under 19s lost their second match against Tuks on January 8th but got an excellent extended work-out, as Tuks batted 50 overs making 273/7. Canada in reply made 208, bowled out in the 48th over. The match scheduled for January 9 was washed out.

U19s win first match. We have a very impressive performance by the team today. We played Assup Tuks Cricket Club. They were missing a few players and we loaned them 2 players from our team.....

Rishiv Joshi was the Man of the match, cleaned up Tuks Top order in a hurry. 4 overs, 4 wickets for 9 Runs, Top 4 batsman
Eshan played a very composed inning to score 38 not out...2 fours and 1 six
