The Canadian Under 19 team opened the Under 19 World Cup with a loss to UAE on Saturday.
Canada batted first and made an excellent start. Radhir Sandhu (35) and Mihir Patel (pictured) put on 82 for the first wicket. Patel competed his half century from 54 balls and partnered by Akhil Kumar (30) took the total to 120/1 at the halfway point. The partnership was broken when Kumar was dismissed with the score on 133, and this was followed by two more wickets, with Calitz making 2 and Walia 1 as Canada fell to 137/4. Captain Asthan Deosammy (23) steadied the ship helping Patel in another 50 partnership before Patel was run out for 90 from 105 balls. Muhammed Kamal made 31 as Canada totalled 231/8 from their 50 overs.
This proved inadequate as UAE cruised to an 8 wicket victory in 38.4 overs, led by a century from Jonathan Figy.
