Canada lose to Oman in top of the table clash


Canada lost to  Oman today in a crucial match in the ICC WCT20 qualifier. Canada now drop down the table, having lost their last two matches, and face a must win match against UAE. They are tied on points with Ireland and UAE but are placed 4th on net run rate. 

Canada won the toss and chose to bat. Srimantha Wijeyeratne opened the batting with Dhaliwal and got off to a flying start, hitting four boundaries off the second over. and the fifty came up after 5.3 overs.  Dhaliwal had made 9 of the 58 run opening partnership when he was bowled, going for a big hit. Scoring rates dropped against some good spin bowling but Wijeyeratne completed his half century from 33 balls, hitting eight boundaries. He hit one more four but then fell to a brilliant catch at cover for 56. Kirton seemed unfortunate to be given leg before, attempting a reverse sweep as the third wicket fell on 92 in the 13th over. Kumar was well caught in the 15th over, and Canada lost 5 wickets from the last 10 balls of the innings, finishing on 144/9. 

Gordon took a wicket in the second over, but Oman cruised to an easy win by 8 wickets with 31 balls remaining.
