Umpiring Examination Guidelines

Interested candidates can register at least ten (10) days before the examination. Candidates who fail to register may not be allowed to sit the examination.

Candidates appearing for the Intermediate Umpire, and Qualified Umpire examination – must show the proof of passing their Provisional Umpire and Intermediate Umpire examination respectively.

All Examinations will be held in the month of April across the country. There will be three levels of examinations. Candidates need to have legal status in Canada.

To increase the chance of passing in the examination, candidates are strongly advised to study both Tom Smith’s Cricket Umpiring and scoring (latest edition) and the current ICC Playing Conditions for limited overs Matches. (Exam Part A – will be based on Current MCC cricket laws (latest version). Part B – will be based on current ICC Playing Conditions for limited over matches.

For Qualified Umpire (CC Level 3)

Requirement:

For Qualified Umpire (CC Level 3)

  1. [01]  Age of majority

  2. [02]  Canadian Resident.

Send an email as specified in contact details with the following details:

  • Copy of Intermediate Umpire (CC Level 2) certificate.

  • Proof of the last four years of umpiring records.

  • Please note that minimum 7 higher division games in a season for last three years is

    required.

  • A letter from the local umpiring association or the league is required.

 

Passing Criteria:

  1. Written exam (Passing marks is 80%)

  2. On field assessment (appointed by Cricket Canada assessors)

  3. Viva (by team consist of Vice Chairman of Committee, Examiner and Assessor)

Please note that certificate will be issued after successfully passing all above-mentioned criteria.

*Notes:
If candidate is inactive for 3 to 5 years, then –

• Refresher Course is required.
If candidate is inactive 6 or more years, then –

• Candidate has to rewrite the exam.

1. Fully qualified umpires from full member countries are required to pass Cricket Canada Qualified Umpire exam.

2. Partially qualified Umpires from full member countries are required to writ Intermediate Umpire exam of Cricket Canada.

3. For qualified umpires or partially qualified umpires from countries other than full member countries, Cricket Canada National Committee for Umpires will decide based on their qualifications and experience.

General Rules for all Levels

  • Government Issued Photo ID is required.

  • Use of ONLY blue or black colored ballpoint pen is allowed.

  • Use of Cell Phone, Smart Watch or any hand-held device is NOT allowed.

  • Participant has to use their own standard calculator. Scientific calculator is NOT allowed.

  • Participants registered for Level 2 & Level 3 will be provided D/L worksheet and D/L resource

    table. Participants can use only those D/L material during the exam.

  • Examination papers are property of Cricket Canada and taking a copy, picture, recording anyhow or sharing is strictly prohibited.
