U19S LOSE 2ND PRACTICE MATCH

The Under 19s lost their second match against Tuks on January 8th but got an excellent extended work-out, as Tuks batted 50 overs making 273/7. Canada in reply made 208, bowled out in the 48th over. The match scheduled for January 9 was washed out.

NITISH KUMAR ON THE U19 WORLD CUP

(ICC media release) Right from the word go the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup has acted as a petri dish for the progress of cricket’s emerging nations, with an ICC Associates XI entered in the inaugural event in 1988.

From those early steps to memorable performances from Nepal, Namibia and Afghanistan in recent years, the age-group showpiece has acted as a vehicle for Associates to turn dreams into reality.

And for Canada’s Nitish Kumar, it helped him make history.

The all-rounder from Scarborough, Ontario has been representing his country for nearly a decade, starting in earnest at the 2010 U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.

Kumar was thrown in at the deep end of the international game, becoming the second-youngest player in ODI history when lining up against Afghanistan in February 2010.

U19S- FIRST PRACTICE DAY

The U19 team had their first practice session at Tuks stadium in South Africa today. After a long flight the team didn’t have much time to rest, playing their first match at Tuks stadium at University of Pretoria against Tuks cricket team tomorrow. Team Canada is prepared well for their first challenge, looking forward to coming up with their best. The game will start at 9.30am tomorrow.

U19S DEPART FOR SOUTH AFRICA

The Under 19 squad departed from Toronto today for South Africa. The Cricket Canada president Mr Ranjit Saini was present to wish them all the best for the the U19 World Cup

Friends and family were also present to see them off.

UNDER 19S READY FOR WORLD CUP

The Canadian Under 19 team leaves for South Africa today, They will open the tournament against UAE on January 18, and will also face South Africa and Afghanistan in the opening round of matches.

They were presented with their caps at a ceremony on the eve of their departure.

ICC 2020 U19 WORLD CUP SQUAD

Cricket Canada has announced the names of 15 players to represent Canada at the forthcoming International Cricket Council’s (ICC) 2020 U19 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa from January 17- February 9, 2020.

Canada’s 15 member playing squad is as follows: Ashtan Deosammy (Captain, pictured), Akhil Kumar, Arshdeep Dhaliwal, Ayush Verma, Benjamin Calitz, Eshan Sensarma, Gurjot Gosal, Mihir Patel, Muhammad Kamal, Nicholas Manohar, Randhir Sandhu, Raqib Shamsudeen, Rishiv Joshi, Udaybir Walia and Harmandeep Singh Bedi.

The Canadian ICC 2020 U19 World Cup Squad will be managed by Anil Khanna. Former Canadian National Senior Team Captain Farouk Kirmani will be the squad’s head coach. He will be joined by assistant coach Kulbir Jaswal, analyst Shah Zafar and physio Tejash Patel.

U19 CAMP

A selection camp was held for players hoping to make the Canadian Under 19 squad for the up coming World Cup scheduled to be held in South Africa from 17 January to 9 February 2020. Extensive fitness testing and evaluation took place, prior to the final squad selection.

CANADA CONCLUDE SUPER 50 TOURNAMENT WITH WIN OVER COMBINED CAMPUSES

Canada ended their Super 50 tournament with a win over Combined Campuses today. They made 252 after being put in to bat, thanks to 68* from Harsh Thaker. They then bowled out combined Campus for 201.

Mehta and Pathan got the innings off to a good start, putting on 41, but then Mehta and Kumar were dismissed in the 10th over. Pathan batted well for his 46 until he was given out leg before with the score on 83 in the 17th over. Tathgur contributed 29, taking the total into three figures but when the 6th wicket fell with the score on 126, Canada looked to be struggling. However Harsh Thaker made an excellent 68*, putting on 92 vor the 8th wicket with Kaleem Sana.

Sana had an excellent game, taking 4 wickets for 24 as the Combined Campuses were bowled out for 201. Thaker and Ahmadzai each had three wickets as Canada recorded a comfortable win.

CANADA LOSE TO BARBADOS

Canada lost to a strong Barbados team today in the Super 50 tournament.

Canada batted first and lost their first wicket in the second over, Jeet Mehta leg before to Cummins. Pathan was caught in the next over, 13/2. Cummins struck twice more, dismissing Kumar and Thaker to reduce Canada to 24/4. Mann (44) helped stage a recovery, but had little support. When he was out Canada were 108/7. Shahid Ahmadzai made 39* but Canada were bowled out for 154 in 44 overs.

Barbados lost three wickets gut knocked off the runs inside 23 overs.
