CRICKET CANADA AND CDCL EXTEND CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY OF SURRENDRA BHANDARI

The Calgary and District Cricket League is sad to announce the passing of former cricketer and coach Surrendra Bhandari. Surrendra represented both Kenya and Canada in the 1970’s, touring England with the Canadian team where he led the team batting averages.

He was a fixture on the city team and enjoyed playing for South Calgary and then later St. John’s Cricket Club. He would return to play first for Titan CC,on their tours of the UK, and then for Glenmore CC where he would finally retire from the game.

Off the pitch, Surrendra was an enthusiastic coach of the Calgary and Alberta junior squads, lending his expertise to bring up a generation of cricketers and administrators that would have impacts on the game at the national level. Surrendra is survived by his loving wife, 3 children, and his numerous grandchildren. His contributions to the game in Canada will long be appreciated

CANADA’S NATIONAL SQUAD FOR ICC 2022 MEN’S T20 WORLD CUP AMERICAS QUALIFIER

Canada’s National Squad For The Antigua Hosted November 7-15, ICC 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier Announced! Cricket Canada has announced the Canadian National Squad to participate in the ICC 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier to be held in Antigua from November 7 – 15, 2021. The fourteen member squad is as follows: Navneet Dhaliwal (Captain), Dilon Heyliger, Jatinderpal Matharu, Shreyas Movva, Salman Nazar, Rayyankhan Pathan, Cecil Pervez, Junaid Siddiqui, Kaleem Sana, Ravinderpal Singh, Hamza Tariq, Harsh Thaker, Saad Zafar and Aaditya Varadharajan. The squad will be accompanied by six officials: Carlos Ragoonath – Manager, Amarinder Bhinder – Coach, two Assistant Coaches Khuram Chohan and Daulat Khan, Ankur Sharma – Physio and Dinesh Mahabir – Analyst. Argentina, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Panama and the USA will be the other seven teams participating in the Antigua hosted seven day tournament which will be played in a round-robin format. The tournament’s top two teams will progress into the two eight-team global qualifiers for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be played in Australia next November. The selected Canadian Squad includes the exciting all-rounder Rayyan Pathan who recently participated as an overseas player in Nepal’s T20 Everest Premier League. Pathan also recorded a highest score of 46 and also captured 8 wickets with his medium-pace bowling during the St Kitts hosted 2019 Cricket West Indies Colonial Medical Life Super50 Tournament. DIVYA SAXENA NAMED ICC WOMEN’S T20 CWC QUALIFIER TOURNAMENT MVP

Canada’s Divya Saxena Voted 2022 ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier Tournament MVP!

Canada’s Divya Saxena was voted Tournament MVP at the conclusion of the October 18-25, Mexico hosted ICC Women’s 2022 T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier. Saxena, who also emerged as the Tournament’s Best Batter, won the prestigious award on the basis of her outstanding all-round performances in Canada’s six matches played.

Saxena scored 180 runs from six innings batted during the tournament at an average of 60.00. She was undefeated in three of her six innings which included a 70 not out in Canada’s opening match against Argentina, as the tournament’s highest individual score. Saxena also captured two wickets with her right arm slow medium bowling and held as many catches as well.

CANADIAN WOMEN’S NATIONAL SQUAD FOR 2021 ICC WOMEN’S T20 WORLD CUP AMERICAS QUALIFIER

Canada’s National Women’s Squad For The Mexico Hosted October 18-25, 2021 ICC 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier Announced!

Cricket Canada has announced the Canadian National Squad to participate in the ICC 2022 Women’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier to be held in Mexico from October 18-25, 2021.

The fourteen member squad is as follows:

Kamna Mirchandani (Captain), Divya Saxena (Vice Captain), Hala Azmat, Mukhwinder Gill, Kate Gray, Mahrukh Imtiaz, Krima Kapadia, Miryam Khokhar, Jasmina Oldham , Achini Perera, Hiba Shamshad, Sonali Vig, Sana Zafar, Saniyah Zia.

The squad will be accompanied by three officials, Abigail Rajkumar – Manager, Kulbir Jaswal – Coach and Tejash Patel – Physio.

CC MEN’S NATIONALS – DAY 2

The often-quoted assertion that “Cream always rises to the top” has long since become universally accepted as one of life’s truisms. Its validity was certainly in evidence on Day Two of the three-day, September 13-15, 2021 Canadian National Men’s T20 Championships being played at King City’s Maple Leaf Cricket Club, as no fewer than four of Canada’s established star players were among the day’s outstanding performers.

Canadian National team “regulars” Rayyan Pathan (72), Ravinderpal Singh (56) Saad Bin Zafar (53) and Rodrigo Thomas (50) all scored highly entertaining half-centuries for their respective teams. There were also similar scores from the slightly less famous Bhupinder Singh (54) and Aaditya Vardarajan (53) on a day that was dominated by some outstanding batting.

CC MEN’S NATIONALS – DAY 1

Hiral Patel (70) Aaditya Vardarajan (60), Udaybir Singh Walia (56), Shreyas Movva (53) all struck half-centuries while Rommel Shahzad 4/12 (4) was the pick of the bowlers as Day 1 of the three-day, September 13-15, 2021 Canadian National Men’s T20 Cricket Championships, got under-way at King City’s Maple Leaf Cricket Club. The four scheduled Day 1 matches featured the Sheilds vs Stallions; Fire vs Fury; Fire vs Stallions and Fury vs Shields.

The Shields vs Stallions match was a bit of a one-sided affair. Batting first Shields posted 122/9 off 20 overs, with Sukhpreet Khohar (32) and Canadian National team captain Navneet Dhaliwal (31) as the top scorers. Bowling for the Stallions, Rommel Shazad had the entire day’s most outstanding figures of 4/12-4.

Chasing 123 for victory, the Stallions reached their target for the loss of only two wickets. Udaybir Singh Walia (56) and Shreya Movva (53) both posting half-centuries in an unbeaten 116 run third-wicket partnership that took the Stallions to their very comfortable victory.

CANADA CUP U18 – DAY 5

Ontario Gold Claims 2021 U18 Canada Cup Championship Honors With Massive Final Round Victory Over BC!

The Friday August 27, 2021 U18 Canada Cup final round clash between the tournament’s two until then unbeaten teams, British Columbia (BC) and Ontario Gold, was anticipated to be a close, exciting contest. It turned out to be a no-contest of epic proportions as Ontario Gold stunned BC with a massive 125 run victory. Set a mere 149 for victory in 50 overs, BC crumbled to 23 all out in 15.4 overs.

The result in the final day’s other match was anywhere nearly that massive a margin. The CC Development Team batting first posted an admirable 236/9 in the 40 overs allowed, after the start of the match had been delayed and the overs reduced due to the wicket having been wet by overnight and early morning rains. In reply the Combined Prairies could only muster 89 before being bowled out in 23.1 overs.

CANADA CUP U18 – DAY 4

BC, Ontario Red Secure Wins, Dilpreet Singh Bajwa Scores Massive Century In 2021 U18 Canada Cup Day 4 Action!

British Columbia (BC) and Ontario Red both registered comfortable victories against their respective opponents as action continued on Day 4, of the 2021 U18 Canada Cup Tournament being played at King City. BC skittled the Prairies Combined (PC) for a paltry 78 all out in 42.4 overs to win in response to the by a mammoth 252 run margin after having posted 330/10 in 49.1 overs having taken first strike.

Ontario Red’s victory over the CC Development Team was as equally decisive. Having restricted the CC Development batting for just 79 all out in 17.3 overs, the Reds easily reached their victory target posting 82/1 off 15.5 overs to win very comfortably by 9 wickets.

CANADA CUP U18 – DAY 3

BC, Ontario Gold Remain Undefeated As 2021 U19 Canada Cup Continues!

British Columbia (BC) and Ontario Gold both maintained their winning ways during the Wednesday, August 25, Day 3 action at the 2021 U18 Canada Cup being played at King City’s Maple Leaf Cricket Club. BC had a bit of a struggle losing seven wickets in pursuit of the 166 they had been set for victory by their Cricket Canada Development Team opponents. Ontario Gold in contrast, were much less challenged posting 252/10 after taking first strike then easily dismissing their fellow Ontario Reds for 131, to win by 121 runs.

Taking first strike Ontario Gold lost three early wickets for 26 and two more by the time they had reached 74. Mihir Patel (71) and Rhamanvir Dhaliwal (67) however, combined in a stand of 89 for the 6th wicket to help the Golds recover. Kairav Sharma, batting at number 9, struck a breezy 26, as the Gold team ended on 252 all out after 48.5 overs.
