A clinical victory for Canada!!!

Team Canada finally got the results they were expecting for! After a few close finishes, the red army finally got to taste victory against the Winwards Islands. The Islands won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Canada Batting first, openers started in a great fashion as they attacked the new ball. The big-hitter Navneet Singh Dhaliwal again top scorer for Canada as he scored 35 runs with four fours and continued his prime form in the tournament.  He was supported by young Bhavindu Adhihetty who has made his mark with scoring regularly making 29 runs. Joint top scorer for Canada Srimantha Wijeratne in the second half of the innings scored 35 runs in 36 balls with the strike-rate of 97.22. Skipper Davy Jacobs anchored the innings batting with his stable innings of 32 runs. Despite all the batting stands, Canada only scored 206 runs at the cost of 9 wickets in 50 Overs.

Defending a small total speed gun Romesh Eranga struck on the very first ball when he sent Dwayne Smith’s stumps flying in the air. Eranga did not keep quite for long as he struck again in the same over on fourth ball when got the second opener for another duck. The fall of wickets continued at regular intervals for Winwards. Eranga took six wicket haul in the match he rattled through the opposition batting line-up and in 10 overs only gave 21 runs with a maiden. Some resistance in the end by Winwards batters, however Canadians bowled them out for 188 runs, winning the match by 18 runs.

After a series of unfavorable results, Canada finally got the fruit of their hard work and consistency. Canada will look to win the rest of the matches in the series and close it on a high.
